It doesn't seem like it could be as far west as the German border, despite the Germanic name, but I could be wrong. Overlaying that and the rough direction from the map, I would estimate that Heimrift is somewhere in the neighborhood of Gdansk. Heimrift is about twice as far from "Hanver" (which is Hanover, Germany) as Hanver is from Lux (Luxembourg, presumably). I reread it prior to cracking KoT, and it really went up a notch or three in my estimation. I like PoT on first read, but wasn't in love with it or anything. I thought it was great - an improvement over the already-solid PoT. I don't really think the scale is perfectly correct (for example, Tall Castle is said to be only a few days away from the Haunt, but the Massif Central is several hundred miles south of Paris), but on the other hand we have an example from the book of geography being forcibly changed by nukes, so who knows.įinished this the other night. On the other hand, Aachen didn't have any mountains last time I was there :) but the Thousand Suns apparently created volcanos, so why not mountains too?Īll of this is just with Google Maps, the map from the book, and a topographical map of Europe. It looks like it's a bit to the northwest, and the only city of much size in that region is Aachen. I don't know where Castle Red is, aside from being a little bit north of Luxembourg. Yes, they were atomic bombs - IIRC Mark once linked a post where he explained that it was indeed physically possible to set off a nuke by starting a fire underneath it. But playing fair was never part of Jorg's game plan.Castle Red? no idea, but it did have many bombs underneath - where those atomic bombs? Faced by an enemy many times his strength Jorg knows that he cannot win a fair fight. Every good king knows to bend the knee in the face of overwhelming odds, if only to save their people and their lands. Every decent man prays this shining hero will unite the empire and heal its wounds. A six nation army, twenty thousand strong, marches toward Jorg's gates, led by a champion beloved of the people. First though he must gather his own pieces, learn the rules of play, and discover how to break them. He saw the game and vowed to sweep the board. The long road to avenge the slaughter of his mother and brother has shown Prince Honorous Jorg Ancrath the hidden hands behind this endless war. The land burns with the fires of a hundred battles as lords and petty kings fight for the Broken Empire. I've walked from pawn to player and I'll win this game of ours, though the cost of it may drown the world in blood. To reach greatness you must step on bodies, and many brothers lie trodden in my wake.
