Patrick has no other choice than to go help out when he gets the phone call from his boss, and he soon realizes that the case he’s working is turning much more dangerous than he first thought. Patrick gets dragged into an investigation in New York City, where deaths have been cropping up with growing frequency and the local police department needs help. He’s seen a lot in his life that no one should have ever had to see, but he’s pretty resigned to how his life turned out, and what he really wants is a vacation. Patrick may only be 26, but he’s seen a lot and is a bit battle worn and reads like he’s closer to 50 than his late twenties. The main character is a 26-year-old mage called Patrick Collins. They’re not equally distributed, however, because we get much more chapters from one POV than the other. This first book is told from two third-person POVs. I loved it, and I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series. There’s just so much happening in this book, and at a much grander scale than I initially anticipated. It also contains magic users – mages and witches as the two most prominent ones brought up. I think this is more PNR / fantasy? This book contains werecreatures, vampires, fae, succubus, and gods and goddesses. I thought this was going to be a PNR romantic suspense with a detective and a new mystery to solve in each book of the series. When I started reading this book, there was next to nothing about this book online that I could find and what i knew about the story came straight from the blurb.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this book. In the end, all debts must be paid, and Patrick can only do what he does best-cheat death.Ī Ferry of Bones & Gold is a 115k word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. Jonothon de Vere is gorgeous, dangerous, and nothing but trouble-to the case, to the fight against every hell, and ultimately, to Patrick’s heart and soul. That doesn’t stop Patrick from wanting what he shouldn’t have.

Patrick has been inexplicably attracted to the man from their first meeting, but desire has no place in war. Looking for allies in all the wrong places, Patrick discovers the Dominion Sect’s next target is the same werewolf the Fates themselves have thrown into his path. Standing his ground alone has never been a winning option in Patrick’s experience, but it’s been years since he’s had a partner he could trust. Unable to walk away, Patrick finds himself once again facing off against mercenary magic users belonging to the Dominion Sect. An immortal has gone missing in New York City and bodies are showing up in the wake of demon-led ritual killings that Patrick recognizes all too easily from his nightmares. Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them. When the gods come calling, you don’t get to say no.
